John Goodrich7 Whitney (James6, John5, Abraham4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of James6 and Nancy (Mascraft) Whitney, was born 28 Sep 1816, corner of Van Schaick and Pearl Streets, Albany, NY, and died after Jan 1876.

He married firstly, 30 Jun 1839, Norwalk, CT, Rebecca Weeks, daughter of William and Polly (Seymour) Weeks. She was born 30 Aug 1817, and died 11 Apr 1844, Albany, NY. She was buried in Albany, and afterward removed to Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, CT.

He married secondly, 4 Jan 1853, Brooklyn, NY, Christina Menzies, daughter of William and Annie (Grant) Menzies. She was born 23 Feb 1826, Inverness, Scotland.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a repairer of watches and watch-cases . . . . He lived for one year in Philadelphia, Penn.; five years in Albany, N.Y.; twenty years in New York and Brooklyn; and moved to Hackensack, N.J., 18 Ap. 1866, where he was living at the corner of Union and Passaic streets, in Jan. 1876, his place of business being at 64 Nassau Street, New York City."

i. Sarah Goodrich8 Whitney, b. 7 Aug 1840, Albany, NY; and was living with her father, at Upper Hackensack, NJ, in 1874.

ii. William Menzies Whitney, b. 31 Dec 1853, New York, NY; was living with his parents, in Upper Hackensack, NJ, in 1874.
iii. Mary Elizabeth Whitney, b. 1 Nov 1856, Brooklyn, NY; d. 5 Jan 1858, Brooklyn, NY, and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
iv. Annie Grant Whitney, b. 16 Jun 1859, Brooklyn, NY; was living with her parents, at Upper Hackensack, NJ, in 1874.
v. Jessie Allen Whitney, b. 30 Jan 1867, Hackensack, NJ; was living with her parents, in Upper Hackensack, NJ, in 1874.
