John Haskell⁷ Whitney (Joseph⁶, Nathan⁵, Nathan⁴, Nathaniel³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Joseph⁶ and Mary C. (Libby) Whitney, was born 7 or 27 Apr 1810, Jonesboro, ME, and died 3 Apr 1848.

He married, 11 Oct 1835, Machias, ME, Clarissa B. Meserve,^[1] daughter of Joseph L. and Betsey (Burnham) Meserve. She was born 10 Dec 1811, Machias, ME, and died after 1876. She married secondly, 16 Sep 1853, Addison, ME, Jason Clapp Look. They were divorced Jan 1876, Washington Co., ME.

i.	Mary Ann8 Whitney, b. Aug 1837, Machias, ME. She may be the Mary A. Whitney who m. 8 Jul 1857, Addison, ME, Rufus Hall, although in the 1860 census, that person was reported as aged 28 years, not 23.
ii.	Joseph Meserve Whitney, b. Jun 1841, Jonesboro, ME; m.(1) Mary E. Thompson; m.(2) Eliza Helen Kingsley.
iii.	Susan Whitney, b. ca. 1843, Washington Co., ME; m. James McCabe.
iv.	Henrietta W. (Etta) Whitney, b. ca. 7 May 1846, Whitneyville, ME; d. 31 Jul 1916, Cherryfield, ME; m. 10 Dec 1863, Machiasport, ME, Elijah E. Eaton, b. ca. 23 Dec 1840, Harrington, ME, d. 25 Feb 1916, Harrington, ME. Both are buried in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington, ME.
