John Shepperd⁹ Whitney (Hosea⁸, Zimri⁷, John⁶, Zachariah⁵, John⁴, Joseph³, John², John¹), son of Hosea⁸ and Charlotte (Sawyer) Whitney, was born 22 Nov 1838, Cambridge, MA, and died 26 Dec 1918, Boston, MA, aged 80 years 1 months 2 days, of lobar pneumonia.^[1]

He married firstly, 1 Sep 1861, Charlestown, MA, Irene A. Richmond, daughter of Israel and Phebe (Bryant) Richmond.^[2] She was born 22 Aug 1837, Oxford, ME, and died 7 Nov 1874, Paris, ME.

He married secondly, 14 Jul 1875, Chloe E. (Peterson) Whiting, daughter of Benjamin H. and Chloe (Richmond) Peterson.^[3] She was born 31 Aug 1841 or 30 Aug 1840, Paris, ME, and died 10 Nov 1910, Norwell, MA, aged 70 years 2 months 10 days, of cancer of the stomach.^[4] She had married firstly, 22 Sep 1860, Hanover, MA, Sylvanus Whiting.^[5] She was buried in Leominster, MA. She was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster, MA.

He was a farmer; resided Paris, ME, and North Leominster, MA.

i.	John A.10 Whitney, b. 14 Jul 1862, MA [but no record found]; resided Oxford, ME.
ii.	Martha E. Whitney, b. 11 Mar 1865, Oxford, ME; "of Holbrook" m. 25 or 26 Nov 1886, Boston, MA, Elmer Ellsworth House, b. ca. 1861, Lebanon, NH, son of Jerome B. and Nancy J. (-----) Whitney;[6] resided 399 Dorchester St., South Boston, MA. He was b. 4 Apr 1861. Ch.: Clarence Ellsworth, b. 26 Sep 1887; Grace Whitney, b. 10 Aug 1892.

John Shepperd⁹ and Chloe E. (Peterson)(Whiting) Whitney had no known children.
