John William7 Whitney (John6, Justus5, Daniel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of John6 and Rachel (Bown/Bounds) Whitney, was born 15 Sep 1810, Stamford, CT, and died 22 Jun 1864, at 292 Smith Street, Brooklyn, NY. She was buried in Albany Rural Cemetery.

He married, 15 Aug 1831, Third Presbyterian Church, Albany, NY, Rachel Matilda Brooks, daughter of Jonathan and Angelica (Schoonmaker) Brooks. She was born 25 Sep 1812, 13 Plain Street, Albany, NY, and died after 1880.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a shoemaker . . . . They dwelt in Albany till 1837; and then moved to New York City, where he was, for twenty years, a private watchman, and, for four years, keeper of The Battery. . . . . She was living in Dec. 1875, at 151 South Peoria Street, Chicago, Ill., with her daughter, Mrs. Emma Augusta (Whitney) Wisdom."

i. John William Whitney, b. 20 Mar 1832, 13 Plain Street Albany, NY; m. Jane Ann Slater.
ii. Sarah Elizabeth Whitney, b. 4 May 1834, Maiden Lane, Albany, NY; m. Brooklyn, NY, John Austin Crolius. They were living at New York City in Dec 1875, with six children, names unknown.
iii. Frederick Duiliger Whitney, b. 15 Jun 1836, 41 State Street, Albany, NY; d. 16 May 1837, Albany, NY, where she was buried in Albany Rural Cemetery.
iv. Harriet Cornelia Whitney, b. 2 Jun 1839, Pearl Street, between Whitehall and The Battery, New York, NY; m. Brooklyn, NY, John M. Richardson; and was living there in Dec 1875, without children.
v. Augustus Whitney, b. 18 Mar 1841, 27 Dey Street, New York, NY; d. 28 Mar 1841, New York, NY, and was buried in Albany Rural Cemetery.
vi. Mary Louisa Whitney, b. 20 Mar 1843, Stone Street, New York, NY; m. 5 Feb 1861, Brooklyn, NY, Joseph Wilmont Cornell, son of Clark and Mary (Spencer) Cornell, b. 7 June 1825, Clinton, PA; a carpenter. They dwelt at Brooklyn for three years; at Clinton, one year and a half; and, in 1867, settled at Middletown, NY, where they were still living in Nov 1875.
vii. Emma Augusta Whitney, b. 14 Sep 1845, Bridge Street near Whitehall, New York, NY; m. 16 Aug 1862, Tompkinsville, Staten Island, NY, Edward Wisdom, son of William and Mary (Warren) Wisdom, b. 14 Feb 1841, Cleveland, OH; a merchant. They dwelt at Brooklyn till Oct 1863; at Montreal, C.W., till Nov 1865; at Philadelphia, PA, till Sep 1868; and then moved to Chicago, IL, where they were still living in Dec 1875, at 151 South Peoria Street, his business being at 20 South Canal Street.
viii. James Torbis Whitney, b. 16 Jun 1847, Morris Street, New York, NY; d. 15 Sep 1848, New York, NY, where he was buried in a vault in Varick Street.
ix. Catharine Amanda Whitney, b. 24 Dec 1849, Mulberry Street, New York, NY; m. Brooklyn, NY, George W. Bain. They were living at 317 Jay Street, Brooklyn, in Nov 1875, without children.
x. Alfred Webster Whitney, b. 25 Feb 1852, Mulberry Street, New York, NY; a mariner; was in service on the U. S. Steamship Franklin in 1875, unmarried.
