Jonathan5 Whitney (Zaccheus4, Jonathan3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Zaccheus4 and Mary (Wheeler) Whitney, was born 12 Jan 1736/7, Bedford, MA,[1] and died 20 Nov 1802, Lancaster, MA, aged 66 years, of apoplexy.[2][3][4]
Marriage intentions were published 20 Aug 1765, Lancaster, MA, for him and Mary Wyman; "both of Lancaster". He married, 3 Oct 1765, Lancaster, MA, Mary Wyman, "both of Lancaster",[5] daughter of Nathaniel and Mary (Sawyer) Wyman. She was born 16 May 1744, Lancaster, MA, and died 12 Jan 1778, Lancaster, MA, in her 34th year.[6][7]
Marriage intentions were published 19 Jun 1779, Lancaster, MA, for him and Lucy Smith, both "of Lancaster".[8] He married, 30 Jun 1779, Lancaster, MA, Lucy (Kendall) Smith, both "of Lancaster",[9] daughter of Josiah and Tabitha (Wyman) Kendall. She was born 3 Nov 1743, Sterling, MA, and died 11 Oct 1817, Lancaster, MA, "relict of late Jonathan Whitney", aged 74 years, of old age.[10][11][12] She had married firstly, 8 Jul 1762, Lancaster, MA, Stephen Smith. He was born 19 Jun 1739, Windham, CT, son of Stephen and Mary (Preston) Smith.
Jonathan & Lucy are both buried at Middle Cemetery, Lancaster, MA.
On 18 Dec 1768, Lancaster, MA, his first wife was admitted to the church.[13] On 5 Apr 1778, Lancaster, MA, he was admitted to the church.[14] On 24 Dec 1780, Lancaster, MA, his second wife was admitted to the church.[15]

Pierce says the following:[16]
- He served during the Revolutionary war in a company from Lancaster.
- Apr. 23, 1818, Jonas WHITNEY asks for a settlement of the estate of Jonathan. In March, 1820, the following heirs are satisfied with the division and sign receipts: Jona WHITNEY, Jonas WHITNEY, Zacheas WHITNEY, Ephraim WHITNEY, Horatio G. BUTTRICK, guar. to Caroline BUTTRICK, Wm. BALLOU, Elizabeth BALLOU, Reuben WHEELER, Sally WHEELER, Eli STEARNS and Mary STEARNS. Lucy WHITNEY's will of Lancaster gives to children of her deceased son Moses SMITH, son Richard SMITH, dau. Lucy ALLEN, dau. Sally WHEELER, gives to Caroline BUTTRICK, granddaughter, son Eprhaim WHITNEY, whom she appointed exec. His gravestone in the Lancaster Middle Cemetery reads:

November 20th 1802
aged 66 years

American Revolutionary War Patriotic Service is documented in the Massachusetts Society of Sons Of The American Revolution, Historical Memoranda with Lists of Members and their Revolutionary Ancestors (Boston, 1897), page 467, which recites:
