Joseph⁷ Whitney (Phinehas⁶, Joshua⁵, Nathaniel⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of Phinehas⁶ and Sarah (Harrington) Whitney, was born 9 Jul 1778, baptized 1 Sep 1782, Dudley, MA, and died 28 Feb 1870 or 26 Feb 1868, Vernon, NY.

He married firstly, before 1806, Herkimer, NY, Sylvia Woodbury, daughter of Knowlton and Miriam (Gould) Woodbury. She was born 19 Oct 1791, Worcester, MA, or 7 Oct 1790, Leverett, MA, and died between May 1822, German Flats, NY.

He married secondly, between 1822 and 1824, Hannah Robertson. She was born about 1797, NY or CT, and died after 1860, and probably before 1870.

He resided Vernon, NY. Mentioned in his father's will, 1824.
