He married, 16 Sep 1858, Patterson, NY, Catharine Bell, daughter of William Alexander adn Ellen (McDonald) Bell. She was born 11 Dec 1838, Belfast, co. Antrim, Ireland, and died after 1910.
Phoenix says the following:
- . . . a farmer; . . . . They lived in the hamlet of Gayville, or Foggingtown, Southeast (Dykeman's post-office), N. Y., in 1874.

i. Isaac James8 Whitney, b. 9 Oct 1859, Patterson, NY; d. 19 Sep 1889, Towners, Putnam Co., NY, and was buried in the Patterson Baptist Cemetery there; was living with his parents, near Dykeman's post-office, in Southeast, NY, in Nov 1873.
