Luke6 Whitney (John5, James4, Joseph3, Jonathan2, John1), son of John5 and Polley (Jones) Whitney, was born 25 Dec 1798, Fitzwilliam, NH,[1] and died 12 Jul 1841, Troy, NH.
He married, 10 Sep 1835, Brattleboro, VT, Lovina Shirley White, of Fitzwilliam, NH[2] (Louisa according to Pierce), daughter of Stephen and Mary (Smith) White. She was born 12 Oct 1806, Fitzwilliam, NH, and died 21 Jul 1886, Marlborough, NH. She, of Troy, NH, married secondly, as his second wife, 4 Dec 1851, Troy, NH, Henry Shirley of Fitzwilliam, NH,[3] son of John and Submit (-----) Shirley, who was born 29 Mar 1796, Sudbury, MA.
Luke Whitney had no other opportunities for obtaining an education than the common schools of his native town, but such time as could be given to that purpose was faithfully improved. Although a good farmer he did not devote all of his time to that business, but became quite a large dealer in horses, buying them in Canada and taking them to Boston for sale. It was on one of these trips to Boston that he contracted the disease of smallpox, from the effects of which he died. He was a farmer. He resided Fitzwilliam and Troy, NH.

Francis Luke Whitney, b. 16 Mar 1840, Troy, NH;[7] was a soldier in the Union army in the war of the rebellion, and died of wounds received at the battle of Cold Harbor, 16 Jun 1864.
