Marcus Israel6 Whitney (Samuel Platt5, Uriah4, Nathan3, John2, Henry1), son of Samuel Platt5 and Martha (Hart)(Owen) Whitney, was born 8 Feb 1808, East Granville, MA, and died 21 Dec 1893, Southwick, MA, aged 86 years 8 months, of heart failure, son of "Israel Whitney" and "Martha (Viets)".[1]

He married, 16 Apr 1834, Granville, MA, Susan Abigail Tryon,[2] daughter of Benjamin and Abigail (Cooley) Tryon. She was born 17 Sep 1815, East Granville, MA, and died 20 May 1888, Westfield, MA, aged 72, of pneumonia, nurse.[3]

Phoenix says the following:

"Marcus Israel Whitney, b. at East Granville, Mass., 8 Feb. 1808; a carpenter and joiner; married, 16 Ap. 1834, at Granville, Susan Abigail Tryon, dau. of Benjamin and Abigail (Cooley) Tryon, of East Granville, where she was born 17 Sept. 1815. They have lived in East Granville, in Westfield, Mass., and in Southwick, Mass., which last was their home in July 1876. When fifty-four years old, he enlisted in Co. F, 27th Reg., Mass. Volunteers; and participated in thirteen battles and skirmishes within three weeks."

iii. William Harrison Whitney, b. 9 Jul 1840, East Granville, MA; m. Sarah Celestia Clark.
iv. Henry Clay Whitney, b. 15 Sep 1844, Westfield, MA; d. 10 May 1846, Westfield, MA, and was buried in East Granville, MA.
v. Henry Whitney, b. 19 Feb 1846, Westfield, MA;[4] apparently d. bef. 1854.
vi. Annette Susan Whitney, b. 10 Jan 1849, Southwick, MA; d. after Jul 1876; m. 2 Sep 1869, Westfield, MA, James Sylvester Sexton/Saxton, b. ca. 1837, Westfield, MA, son of George W. and Huldah P. (-----) Saxton.[5]
vii. Henry Clay Whitney, b. 13 Jan 1854, Southwick, MA;[6] d. 28 or 24 Feb 1864, Westfield, MA, aged 10 years 1 month, of scarlet fever;[7] bur. Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield, MA.
