Hon. Marshall Hill6 Whitney (Barnabas5, Isaac4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Barnabas5 and Sarah R. (Walker) Whitney, was born 15 Jan 1800, Freeman, ME, and died 20 Jun 1865, or 24 Jul 1865, Freeman, ME. (Note: Marshall's father, Barbabas, did not arrive in Freeman until 1808, so Marshall was probably not born in Freeman.)

He married 1 Jan 1819, Milton, or 6 Sep 1819, Freeman, ME, Lovina Luce. She was born 3 Apr 1793, Freeman, ME, the dau. of Benjamin and Prudence (Pease) Luce; died 14 Aug 1877, Freeman, ME. Marshall and Lovina are both buried in the Tuttle Corner Cemetery in Freeman, ME.

He was a senator from Maine in 1837. Was appointed postmaster in 1838, and excepting eight years served till he resigned the office in 1863. His son Summer lived in Rockland, ME, in Oct 1874, of the firm of S. Whitney & Son, manufacturers of lime, and dealers in corn flour, West India goods and groceries. He printed a partial record of the family. He resided Freeman, ME.

v. Paulina Whitney, b. ca. 13 Oct 1826, Freeman, ME; d. 8 Apr 1847, Lowell, MA, aged 20 years 5 months 25 days, of disease of the heart; unmarried.[2]
vi. Roscoe G. Whitney, b. ca. 1828; d. in infancy; buried in the Tuttle Corner Cemetery, Freeman, ME.
vii. Charlotte P. Whitney, b. 30 Jul 1829, Freeman, ME; m. 16 Feb 1854, Lowell, MA, Stephen Jones, Jr., b. ca. 1832, Norridgewock, ME, son of Stephen and Sarah (-----) Jones.[3]
viii. Elbridge G. Whitney, b. 24 Jan 1831, Freeman, ME; m. Frances Adelaide8 Whitney.
