Family:Whitney, Mary (1694-a1739)
Mary4 Whitney (Joseph3, John2, John1), daughter of Joseph3 and Martha (Beach) Whitney, was born 21 Apr 1694, Watertown, MA, but circa 1690 (calculated from age "12 and more" at appointment of guardian on 7 Dec 1702).[1]
She "of Watertown" married, 13 Jul 1715, Watertown, MA, John Knapp[2] "of Newtown", son of John and Sarah (Parks) Knapp. He was born 11 Dec 1688, Newton, MA, and died in 1780.
On 7 Dec 1702, Watertown, MA, guardian bond was posted by Martha Whitney of Watertown, widow, with Joseph Whitney and John Whitney of Watertown, sureties, as guardian of Mary Whitney, aged 12 and more, and Sarah Whitney, aged 7 and more, daughters of Joseph Whitney late of Watertown, decd., intestate.
In 1739, Newton, MA, she was made guardian of their children.
Pierce says the following:[3]
- MARY [WHITNEY], b. Apr. 21, 1694; m. July 13, 1713, John KNAPP, Jr., of Newton, b. Dec. 11, 1688; d. 1730. Ch.: David, Josiah, Isaac, Bathsheba, Martha and Lydia.
She and a cousin also named Mary Whitney are confused by some sources.
