Mattison Palmer9 Whitney (Cole Mattison8, Phinehas7, Phinehas6, Joshua5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Cole Mattison8 and Catherine (Getman) Whitney, was born about 1831, NY, and died 1902. He was buried in Oakview Cemetery, Frankfort, NY.[1]
He married, 24 Jul 1861, Waterbury, CT, Sarah S. Clark. She was born about 1842, CT, and died 1913. She was buried in Oakview Cemetery, Frankfort, NY.[2]
He resided Frankfort. Also listed as Madison Palmer.
He served in the Civil War, enlisting as a 1st Lieutenant, Co. B, 5th Connecticut Infantry, and being discharged as a Captain, Co. A, same regiment. He applied on 17 Aug 1871 for an invalid pension for this service, Application #168,135, Certificate #117,442. On 11 Dec 1902, Sarah S. Whitney applied for a widow's pension based on his service, Application #774,913, Certificate #555,532, N.Y.

Notes
His birthdate is given on his gravestone as 1838, but his age on various censuses varies greatly. In 1840, he was apparently 5-9; in 1855, 19; in 1870, 31; in 1875, 36; in 1880, 41; in 1900, 61 (and b. Jul 1838). The last four reports are consistent with his stone, but conflict with the earliest one, which would seem to be more accurate.
