Dea. Micah5 Whitney (James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Dea. James4 and Martha (Rice) Whitney, was born 4 Jun 1725, Sherborn, MA,[1] and died 29 Nov 1791, Douglas, MA, at age 66.[2]

He "of Watertown" married, 11 Nov 1747, Watertown, MA, Lydia Mason "of Natick",[3] daughter of Joseph and Mary (Monk) Mason. She was born 6 Nov 1727, Watertown, MA.

Pierce says the following:[4]

Deacon Micah was born in Framingham. He was in the French and Indian war and his name is found on Morris roll of BUCKMINSTER's regiment in 1755. He was one of the prominent citizens, was member of the church and deacon for many years, and one of the selectmen. Morse, in his History of Sherborn, says that he died June 23, 1860. This is, of course, impossible. And if we correct it to 1760, we find that we have the date of Mark WHITNEY's death, whose will Micah witnessed only six days earlier. The chances are against this, also, so I conclude that Morse, ignorant of Mark's existence, jumped at the conclusion that the Natick records had been written "Mark" when they should have been written "Micah." I have been of the opinion that Micah, and Thomas (Mark's son) with their families, moved away about 1760. Both men disappeared from Natick and vicinity about that time. I think Micah moved to Douglass, for he served in the Revolutionary war from that town.

Children of Dea. Micah5 and Lydia (Mason) Whitney, all born Natick, MA:

i. Mary6 Whitney, bapt. 11 Sep 1748, Natick, MA;[5] m. 25 May 1775, Douglas, MA, Aaron Hill,[6] son of Caleb and Hannah (Adams) Hill.
ii. Amos Whitney, b. 7 May 1750, Natick, MA;[7] d. 4 Feb 1755, Natick, MA.[8]
iii. Micah Whitney, b. 20 Jun 1753, Natick, MA.[9]
iv. Daniel Whitney, b. 26 Jan 1759, Natick, MA;[10] m. Eunice Marsh.
v. Mason Whitney, b. 16 Dec 1765, Natick, MA;[11] m. Dolly Rawson.

Census

  • 1790, Chesterfield, Cheshire Co., NH: Micah Whitney, 1 male over 16 and 1 female. It could be that this was the son, but no record of Micah, Sr., is found in the 1790 census of Massachusetts, so it seems likely that this was the father.
