Ohel and Mary Esther Catherine (Askren) Whitney

Ohel Edward 8 Whitney (Albert R.7, Josiah6, Josiah5, Josiah4, Josiah3, [prob.] Benjamin2, John1), son of Albert R.7 and Betsey (Case) Whitney, was born 1 Jan 1842, Rootstown, OH,[1] and died after 1910.[2]

He married firstly, 23 Dec 1865, New Albany, IN, Sarah Hayes. She was born about 1842, IN; and died 16 May 1886.

He married secondly, 30 May 1887, Mary Elle Askren. She was born about 1867, IA.

His father died when he was 10 years of age. On 25 Apr 1861, he enlisted in the 7th Ohio Infantry, at Ravenna, Portage County, OH, and re-enlisted as a veteran on 14 Jan 1864, at Bridgeport, AL, and was discharged at Louisville, KY, 1 Jul 1865. He is a mason by trade; resided Birmingham, IA.

iii. Mary M. Whitney, b. 14 Apr 1875; d. 3 Mar 1891.
iv. Frank Blair Whitney, b. 8 Feb 1877, IL; d. 26 Mar 1950, Independence, IA; m. Estella Troester.
