He married, 30 Dec 1746, Stanton upon Hine Heath, Shropshire, England, Mary Embery. She was born about 1719, and was buried 9 Apr 1799, Shawbury, Shropshire, England. Richard and his wife lived at Besford at the time of their deaths.

Richard Whitney, bpt. 10 Nov 1751, Shawbury, Shropshire, England; bur. 10 Apr 1798, Stanton Upon Hine Heath, Shropshire, England; m.(1) 25 Jul 1774, Moreton Corbet, Shropshire, England, Martha Groom, bur. 4 Jul 1786, Lee Brockhurst, Shropshire, England; m.(2) 31 Dec 1787, Stanton upon Hine Heath, Shropshire, England, Elizabeth (-----) Humphreyson, b. abt. 1762 and bur. 31 Dec 1803, Stanton upon Hine Heath, Shropshire, England. Richard and his second wife lived at the Township of Booley at the time of their deaths. She may have been the Elizabeth Leech, bapt. 14 Aug 1763, Hodnet, Shropshire, England, daughter of Samuel and Mary (-----) Leech, who m.(1) 26 Mar 1781, Stanton Upon Hine Heath, Shropshire, England, William Humphreyson, by whom she had three children. William was buried 12 Sep 1787, Pitchford, Shropshire, England. On the marriage record of Elizabeth Humphreyson to Richard Whitney, Edward Leech is a witness. Elizabeth had a brother, Edward bapt. 1765, Hodnet.
