Capt. Richard6 Whitney (Moses5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Moses5 and Mary (Page) Whitney, born 20 Nov 1780, Gorham, Maine,[1] and died 24 Dec 1855, Sebec, Piscataquis Co., ME.[2]

He married, in June about 1808, Northport, Waldo Co., ME, Martha Flanders.[3] She was born circa 1792[4] or circa 30 Sep 1789, Newburyport, MA, daughter of Hezekiah Flanders.[5] She died 19 Oct 1887, Medfield, Norfolk Co., MA, age 98 years, 0 months, 20 days, of old age.[6]

Richard Whitney was a Corporal in the company commanded by Captain Jonathan Frye in the regiment of Maine Infantry commanded by Lt. Colonel Jacob Ulmer. He enlisted at Northport, Maine on or about 2 Sep 1814, and continued in service for 19 days. Captain Jonathan Frye’s Company had rendezvoused in Northport on 2 Sep 1814 and marched to Belmont and Belfast, Maine, where they were discharged on 14 September 1814. His service was terminated by the close of the war at Northport on 21 Sep 1814. He, at the time of his enlistment, was of medium height, black hair, and dark complexion.[7]

They lived at Northport (where they sold their farm in 1839), Sebec and Hampden in Maine, and Medfield, Massachusetts. She resided, 1884, Medfield, Norfolk Co., MA.[8]

On 13 Nov 1837 there was a transaction between Samuel Whitney and Richard Whitney, recorded in Sebec, in which Richard Whitney was listed 'of Northport'.

In 1842, Richard transferred land to two of his children:

Vol 8 pg 64 11-3-1842 Warranty Deed From Richard Whitney, for $900, paid by Sarah Whitney, Sebec, a single woman. 50 acres of land between lots of David Sands and Abraham Ireland, James Spearing and Benjamin Spearing, Ezekiel Getchell and George Livermore. Part of Lot 1, 5th Range. Part of same as conveyed to Richard Whitney by Samuel Whitney 11-13-1837. Signed by Richard Whitney and Martha Whitney.
Vol 8 pg 65 11-3-1842 Warranty Deed From Richard Whitney, for $600, paid by Andrew Whitney, Sebec, yeoman. 50 acres of land in Lot 1, 4th Range, bordered by: westerly, Robert Morrison; northerly, part of Lot 1, 5th Range; easterly, land occupied by Joshua Livermore; southerly, part of Lot 1, 3rd Range. Signed by Richard Whitney.

Martha Whitney applied for benefits from the pension rights of her deceased husband Richard Whitney from Norfolk Co., MA on 24 June 1884. Her application for pension benefits was rejected due to the short term of service of her husband (13 days credit for service).[9]

He was a sea captain; resided "Lubeck", Maine.[10]
