Samuel5 Whitney (William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of William4 and Martha (Peirce) Whitney,[1] was born 23 May 1719, Weston, MA,[2] baptized 25 Jun 1738, Weston, MA, adult,[3] and died 1 Jan 1782, Westminster, MA.[4]

He "Jr." married, 20 Oct 1741, Weston, MA, Abigail Fletcher,[5] "both of Weston", daughter of John and Mary (Goble) Fletcher. She was born 20 Jul 1720, Concord, MA, and died after 1790.

Samuel Whitney, Jun., was admitted to the church, Weston, MA, 11 Oct 1741, "remov'd".[6] "Abigail Fletcher Whitney, wife of Samuel, was admitted to the church, Weston, MA, 1741, "remov'd".[7]

He was also known as Lt. Samuel Whitney. He was also known as Samuel Whitney Jr. called "Jr." to distinguish him from his cousin, son of uncle Nathaniel. He lived at Westminster, MA.

His father's estate was probated 15 Aug 1720 at Weston, MA. At the time of the probate of the estate of father William Whitney in 1720, Martha Whitney, widow, was appointed guardian of the five minor children of her late husband, vizt. William, in his 14th year, Judith, in her 12th year, Amity, in her 8th year, Martha, in her 5th year, and Samuel, in his 2nd year, and posted bond with Jacob Pierce, husbandman, of Weston, as surety. Church member in Weston in 1741, removed Oct 11 (with his wife), assumedly to the church in Westminster, where they had their children and where he died in 1782. He owned the covenant. He was admitted to the church. He was church member, joined 11 Oct 1741, removed.

Pierce says the following:[8]

LIEUT. SAMUEL WHITNEY, b. May 23, 1719; m. Oct. 20, 1741, Abigail FLETCHER. He was a leading man in the settlement of Westminster, and was frequently elected to office. He went from Weston soon after his marriage, probably in 1742. His place of residence in Westminster in 1859 was owned by Mr. HARTWELL. The old cellar is still visible. Samuel was frequently elected selectman and during the Revolutionary war was a lieutenant. The History of Westminster says: "He located on the lot No. 51, near the No. Common, where Leander HARTWELL now lives. The house he built stood a few rods south of the site of the present one. He was a prominent, capable, and much esteemed resident of the township, one of the executive committee of the propriety and selectman three years after incorporation. He also held a commission as lieutenant in the militia of the province. He was a man of wealth and influence, having a large landed estate, which enabled him to give each of his sons a farm, it is said, before or at his decease." The inventory of his estate was made to probate court by his widow, Abigail, in April, 1783. He d. Jan. 1, 1782; res. Weston and Westminster, Mass.
