Samuel Whiting/Whitney, parentage uncertain, was born perhaps 1750. His surname is given as Whiting both in the marriage intentions and in the marriage record. The 1790 Census calls him Whitney. The births of his daughter and son gives it as Whiting.
Intentions of marriage were published 12 Sep 1772, Lunenburg, MA, for him and Ruth Goodridge, "both of Lunenburg". He married, 1 Dec 1772, Lunenburg, MA, Ruth Goodridge, daughter of Joshua and Lydia (Stearns) Goodridge, by Rev. Zabdiel Adams. She was born 13 Sep 1751, Lunenburg, MA.

i. Lucy Whiting, b. 19 Dec 1773, Lunenburg, MA, ii. Abijah Whiting, b. 24 Dec 1775, Rindge, NH.
