Family:Whitney, Samuel Hart (1800-1874)
Samuel Hart6 Whitney (Samuel Platt5, Uriah4, Nathan3, John2, Henry1), son of Samuel Platt5 and Martha (Hart)(Owen) Whitney, was born 14 Sep 1800, Granby, CT,[1] and died 2 Nov 1874, Granville, MA.
Marriage intentions were published 13 Mar 1825, Granville, MA, for him and Marilla L. Dickinson.[2] He married, Jan 1825, Granville, MA, Marilla Lovisa Dickinson, daughter of Otis and Melinda (Bancroft) Dickinson. She was born 11 Mar 1806, Granville, MA,[3] and died 1 Oct 1897, Granville, MA, aged 91 years 6 months 19 days, of fracture of neck of femur.[4]
Phoenix says the following:
- Samuel Hart Whitney, b. at Granby, Conn., 14 Sept. 1800; a carpenter and joiner; married, in Jan. 1825, at Granville, Mass, Marilla Lovisa Dickinson, dau. of Otis and Melinda (Bancroft) Dickinson, of Granville, where she was born 11 March 1806. They settled in Granville, where he died, 2 Nov. 1874, and where she was living in Jan. 1876. He was, for many years, a captain in the Mass. militia; and was also chairman of the Board of Assessors for Granville.

i. Milton Burrall Whitney, b. 6 Oct 1825, East Granville, MA; m. Florence Fuller. ii. Marilla Emeline Whitney, b. 15 Jan 1830, East Granville, MA; d. 13 Jun 1890, Westfield, MA, aged 60 years 4 months 29 days, of chronic disease of heart;[5] m. 13 Sep 1854, Norfolk, CT, Phelps Ezekiel Alderman, a carriage-manufacturer, son of Ezekiel and Julia (Osborn) Alderman, of Granby, CT, where he was b. 15 Sep 1827, and d. 11 Aug 1860, Russell, MA. They were living at Westfield, MA, Jul 1876. She resided Saratoga Springs, NY, in 1880 and at death. iii. Frances Ann Whitney, b. 4 Aug 1834, East Granville, MA; m. 1 Mar 1857, East Granville, MA; James Wallace Johnson, a manufacturer, whose parents then lived at Harwinton, CT. He was b. 29 Aug 1826, Winchester, CT, son of Eli and Evalina (Bettis) Johnson. They lived at West Granville, MA, till Mar 1859; at Tolland, MA, till Mar 1861; and then returned to West Granville, where they were living in Jan 1876. He was then engaged in manufacturing handles for shovels, hoes and brooms, as well as stales for forks and rakes. He has been selectman and assessor of his town, and a deacon in the church.
