Family:Whitney, Seth (1765-1835)

Seth⁵ Whitney (Seth⁴, Nathan³, John², Henry¹), son of Seth⁴ and Sarah (Mow) Whitney, was born 3 May 1765, Yorktown, NY, died 20 May 1835, Yorktown, NY, aged 70 years 17 days.

He married, 17 Nov 1792, Yorktown, NY, Elizabeth Strang, daughter of Henry and Margaret (Hazard) Strang. She was born 13 Sep 1766, Yorktown, NY, and died 6 Nov or Dec 1858, Yorktown, NY, aged 91 years 2 months 17 days [sic].

Phoenix says the following:

Seth Whitney, b. at Yorktown, N.Y., 3 May 1765; married at Yorktown, by Rev. Silas Constant, of Crompond, 17 Nov. 1792, to Elizabeth Strang, born at Crompond, 13 Sept. 1766, dau. of Henry and Margaret (Hazard) Strang, g. dau. of Daniel and Phoebe (Purdy) Strang, and g. g. dau. of Daniel and Charlotte (Hubert) L'Estrange. He was a farmer; settled in the house in which he was born, on his father's homestead; joined the Presbyterian Church at Crompond, 9 June 1802; was early elected a deacon, being called by that title in the church-records as early as 2 May 1806; made his will at Yorktown, 20 May 1835, and died of hernia, the same day, "aged 70 years and 17 days," according to his gravestone. She died in Yorktown, 6 Nov. 1858, according to family-record, while her gravestone says, "6 Dec. 1857, aged 91 years, 2 months and 17 days."
