Sylvanus Chapel7 Whitney (Amasa6, John5, John4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of Amasa6 and Sarah (Chapin) Whitney, was born 13 Nov 1820, Manlius, NY, and died 28 Mar 1863, Oshkosh, WI, of consumption.

He married 4 Jul 1849, Fort Brewerton, NY, Almira Sally White, daughter of Alfred and Sally (Linnen) White. She was born 5 Jul 1822, Sandy Creek, NY, and died 25 Apr 1901, Omro, WI. She married secondly, 1 Feb 1866, Oshkosh, WI, Truman H. Bullis as his second wife, born 30 Aug 1819, and died 18 Jun 1903, Waukau, WI.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a photographer . . . . They dwelt at Sandy Creek till 1855; and then settled at Oshkosh, Wis. . . . . He enlisted at Oshkosh, under the first call for men, in a company called the "Scott Volunteers", which was full and organized 24 Ap. 1861, and made part of the 3d Reg., Wis. Vol. Infantry. In the battle of Corinth he suffered a sun-stroke; was taken to Mound City Hospital, where he was discharged, after five months; and reached home just seven weeks before his death. She . . . was living at Waukau, Wis., in Feb. 1876, having then been there ten years."

Celia Ann8 Whitney, b. 25 Jul 1851, Sandy Creek, NY; d. after Feb 1876; m. 11 Dec 1867, Utica, WI, George Henry Thompson, son of Elihu and Sophia (Mosley) Thompson, of Aurora, WI; b. 26 Nov 1839, Waukesha, WI. They settled at Waukau, WI, and were living there in Feb 1876. He served for one year during the war of 1861, in Co. K, 5th Reg., Wis. Vol. Infantry; and took part in the battle of Hatcher's Run, and the first and second battles of Petersburgh.
