Thomas8 Whitney (Thomas7, Phinehas6, William5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Thomas7 and Henrietta (Parker) Whitney, was born 17 Apr 1800, Shirley, MA,[1] and "Esq." died 6 Dec 1865, Shirley, MA, aged 65 years 7 months 19 days, of paralyis, farmer.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 15 Sep 1822, Shirley, MA, for him and Sally Barrett.[3] He "Mr." "Jr." married, 10 Oct 1822, Lunenburg, MA, "Miss" Sally Barrett, "both of Shirley",[4] daughter of Stephen and Sally (Barrett) Barrett. She was born 19 Apr 1800, Shirley, MA, and died 30 Apr 1868, Shirley, MA, widow, aged 68 years 11 days.[5]

He resided Shirley, MA.

i. Thomas Edwin9 Whitney, b. 1 Nov 1825, Shirley, MA;[6] only child. Thomas Edwin Whitney, A.M., "Thomas B." d. 25 Oct 1876, Shirley, MA, aged 50 years 11 months 25 days, of stomatitis, unmarried.[7] He was educated at the common schools of his native town, Shirley, MA, and spent a few terms at a friend's school. He entered Groton academy and was prepared for college; entering Harvard, he was graduated in 1845. Returning to Shirley he established a select school. A few years after he established himself in business as a broker and soon went into the Nova Scotia trade. Not being successful he returned to his native town and cultivated the broad acres of his ancestors. He never married. He was the last of the name in this family line to which he belonged. The dust of four generations has found one common resting place.
