Thomas Lafayette12 Whitney (Clyde Perry11, Lafayette Le/Frazier10, Horace Burnham9, Horace Burnham8, Luther7, Nathaniel6, Samuel5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Clyde11 and Bertha Ethel (Metcalf) Whitney, was born 16 Nov 1927, Lima, IL, and died 17 Sep 2011, Duluth, MN.
He married, 27 Mar 1948, Escanaba, MI, Victoria Mathilda Mattson, daughter of Carl Emil and Josephine Barbara (Thomma) Mattson. She was born 23 Dec 1929, Escanaba, MI.
WWII veteran joining at the age of 17, serving with the 7th Pacific Fleet on the aircraft carrier CVE 96 Salamoa as a radar assistant. He was present in Tokyo Bay for the Peace Signing and volunteered for Atomic Bomb Testing following the war in the Bikini Islands until his discharge in 1946.
He worked in Escanaba, MI, on his uncle's mink farm until 1948 when he moved first to Duluth, MN, and then to Superior, WI, working for Great Northern R.R. which became the Burlington R.R. later. He also worked 16 years as a body repairman for his brother-in-law Bert Westman at the Westman Auto Shop in Superior as a second job. Vicky worked for the Abstract Office as Secretary in Escanaba, then for Marshall Well Hardware wholesale office in Duluth before Bonnie's birth. She stopped working as the children were born returning as lunch room aide for the local Franklin Elementary school in Superior, WI, after Colleen graduated from high school. They moved to Iron River, WI, and Iron Lake, then back to South Superior, WI, and to Duluth upon retirement.
