Uriel6 Whitney (Abner5, John4, Isaiah3, Thomas2, John1), son of Abner5 and Sarah (Hilton) Whitney, was born 11 Sep 1757, Shirley, MA,[1] and died 10 Nov 1835, North Yarmouth, ME, aged 78 years.[2]
He married, 16 Dec 1784, Gorham, ME, Lydia Whitmore,[3] daughter of Samuel and Mary5 (Whitney) Whitmore. She was born 1 Aug 1764, or 5 Aug 1765, and died 6 Mar 1818, North Yarmouth, ME, aged 52 years.[4] She was buried at North Yarmouth, ME.
Marriage intentions were published 14 Jul 1819, North Yarmouth, ME, for him and Betsey Lothrop "of Gorham"[5] He married secondly, 7 Aug 1819, Betsey (Mosher) Lathrop, daughter of James and Abigail (Frost) Mosher. She was born 11 Mar 1780, Gorham, ME, and died 4 Feb 1849, North Yarmouth, ME. aged 69 years.[6] She had married firstly, 14 Apr 1799, Gorham, ME, Thomas Lathrop.
He was born in Shirley, and at the breaking out of the Revolutionary was enlisted in Col. Prescott's regiment. The emlistment bears date of 19 Apr 1775. After the war he located in Gorham, ME, where he married his wife. In 1798 he purchased land in North Yarmouth, ME, to which place he removed his family soon after. He ever after resided there, and was a noted school teacher, being familiarly known as "Master Whitney." He was held in high esteem as a citizen and as a Christian; was a member of the Congregational church in Pownal, ME, Percy Chapin, pastor. He was granted a pension 28 Apr 1818. He resided Gorham, ME.

Holyoke Female Sem. 1856; taught in Marion, IA, 5 years; at Rockford, IL, 4 years; now, and the last 18 years, a teacher in Boston, MA.
