William6 Whitney (Stephen5, Henry4, Josiah3, John2, Henry1), son of Stephen5 and Harriet (Suydam) Whitney, was born 6 Jul 1816, New York, NY, and died 12 Jun 1862, New York, NY. He is buried in the family chapel, Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
He married, 4 Nov 1843, New York, NY, Mary Stuart McVickar, daughter of James and Eweretta (Constable) McVickar. She was born 6 Jan 1817, Schenectady, NY, and died after Jun 1877.
Phoenix says the following:
- "William Whitney, b. at 25 Pearl St., New York, 6 July 1816; for many years a gentleman-farmer, having a fine country-seat near Morristown, N. J.; married, 4 Nov. 1843, in the Duane Street, (Presbyterian) Church, by Rev. George Potts, to Mary Stuart McVickar, born at Schenectady, N. Y., 6 Jan. 1817, dau. of James1 and Eweretta (Constable) McVickar, of Constableville, N. Y. He died, 12 June 1862, at his city residence, 11 East 26th Street, New York (where his widow still resided, in June 1877), and is buried in the family chapel, Greenwood Cemetery."
