William Whitney (William Hildreth, Aaron, [poss.] Jonathan5, Samuel4, John3, Benjamin2, John1), son of William Hildreth and Mary V. (Morrill) Whitney, was born 27 Aug 1843, Sebec, ME[1] (but 26 Aug 1844 per gravestone), and died 8 Oct 1904. He was buried in Ingraham Cemetery, Owls Head, ME.[2]

He married firstly, 7 Dec 1865, Foxcroft, ME, Rozilla "Rosa" Goff,[3] daughter of Jabez B. and Syrena (----) Goff. She was born about 1846, ME, and died after 1870.

He married secondly, about 1874, Hattie Ruth Nevers, daughter of George Wheeler and Elizabeth (Perley/Kitchen) Nevers. She was born about 2 Oct 1850, Prince William, York Co., NB or about 22 Oct 1850, Calais, ME, and died 20 Jan 1918, aged 67 years 2 months 28 days. She was buried in Ingraham Cemetery, Owls Head, ME.[4]

Child of William and Rozilla "Rosa" (Goff) Whitney:

i. Edward E. Whitney, b. 12 Oct 1868, ME; d. 4 Jan 1932, Dover-Foxcroft, ME; m. 25 Oct 1885, Penobscot Co., ME, Ella D/E. Clark, b. 6 Mar 1867, MA. In 1880, Edward resided with this grandparents, William and Mary V. Whitney in Sebec, ME. He resided in Dover, ME, in the censuses of 1900 thru 1930, where he was the Register of Deeds and and insurance agent. He appears to have died s.p. Both he and Ella are buried in the Brown (Old Dover Village) Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft, ME.

Children of William and Hattie Ruth (Nevers) Whitney:

i. Clara Whitney, b. ca. 1875, ME (but 24 Dec 1872 per gravestone); d. 31 Mar 1902; bur. Ingraham Cemetery, Owls Head, ME;[5] m. 24 Dec 1894, ME, Leonard Hatch Snow.
ii. William Hildreth Whitney, b. Dec 1878 (but 1879 per gravestone), ME; m. Mary P. Thompson.

Notes

His son's death record says that the above William was born in Sebec, ME. His birthdate from his gravestone gives 26 Aug 1844. There is a record of the birth of William Whitney, son of William Hildreth Whitney, who was born 27 Aug 1843, Sebec, ME, according to Sebec vital records. Consider that this man named his son William Hildreth Whitney, and the conclusion is that this man and that child are extremely likely to be identical. If that is correct, then Rozilla "Rosa" Goff would be his first wife, and Hattie Ruth Nevers his second. The above reflects that identification.
