William E. Whitney, parentage unknown (but his father was born in England and his mother in New York), was born about 1847, NY, and died after 1881, and apparently before 1900.

He married firstly, 24 Feb 1871, Johnson Co., IA, Mary Smith,^[1] daughter of John and Catharine (Davis) Whitney. She was born 2 Nov 1854, Muscatine, IA, and died 30 May 1891. She was buried in Hillside Cemetery, State Center, IA.^[2]

He was a jeweler.
