William H. Whitney, parentage unknown, was born about 1810, Boston, MA, or Charlestown, MA, and died after 1855. See notes below for a probable death record and parentage.

He married, 14 Jun 1832, Thompson, CT, Mary Ann Parmenter,[1] daughter of Silas and Lucinda (Norcross) Parmenter. She was born 10 Aug 1811, Leominster, MA, and died 23 Mar 1882, Princeton, MA, aged 69 years 7 months 15 days, of disease of heart and dropsy, widowed.[2]

iv. Mary A. Whitney, b. ca. 1840, MA; m. 20 Apr 1862, Princeton, MA, Henry H. Parker, b. ca. 1840. Princeton, MA, son of Daniel and Nancy (Bryant) Parker.[6]
v. Augustine Whitney, b. ca. 7 Nov 1841, MA; d. 17 Sep 1871, Princeton, MA, aged 29 years 10 months 10 days, of pulmonary consumption.[7]
vi. John W. Whitney, b. 7 Oct 1843, Princeton, MA;[8] m. Mary Ellen May.
vii. Edward Whitney, b. 6 Mar 1846, Princeton, MA [given name omitted].[9] Possibly the Edward Whitney, Co. E, 5th Mass. Inf., d. 5 Apr 1869, Leominster, MA, aged 23 years 1 month, of consumption;[10] bur. Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster, MA.
viii. Caroline A. Whitney, b. 12 Apr 1848, Princeton, MA;[11] d. 6 Mar 1897, Princeton, MA, aged 48 years 11 months 2 days, of pneumonia;[12] bur. North Cemetery, Princeton, MA; m. 10 Nov 1869, Princeton, MA, Irving Wallace Beaman, b. ca. 1846, Princeton, MA, son of Winslow/Windsor E. and Abigail (Gordon) Beaman.[13]
ix. Solon Wilder Whitney, b. 20 Jan 1851, Princeton, MA;[14] m. Harriet Emma Bull.
x. Walter Crosby Whitney, b. 19 Apr 1856, Leominster, MA;[15] of Petaluma, CA, 29 Sep 1880; of Bachelor Valley, CA, 14 May 1884.

Notes

It seems extremely likely that he was the "Wm. A. Whitney" who died 27 Nov 1859, Leominster, MA, aged 50 years 1 month, of dropsy, farmer, born in Charlestown, son of Joseph and Betsey.[16] If so, his parents would seem to be the Joseph and Betsey (Lane) Whitney who were married 17 May 1807, Boston, MA.[17] This is partly because William's oldest son was given the middle name Lane.
