William L. Whitney, parentage unknown, supposedly born circa 1814, "Rutland County", NY, died 12 Dec 1875, Saratoga, IA.
He married Lucy Bryant, daughter of David and Abigail (Hilliard) Bryant. She was born circa 1830, NY, and died 16 Sep 1915, Olympia, WA.
She married, secondly, G. C. Johnson. He was born circa 1818, England, and died after 1880.
Children of William and Lucy (Bryant) Whitney:
i. William Whitney, b. 26 Feb 1871, Saratoga, IA, d. 19 Feb 1949, Olympia, WA. He m. Lovina O. Hull. Was this perhaps Saratoga Township, Howard Co., IA?
Notes
There is no such county as "Rutland County" in New York. This may have been Rutland, Jefferson Co., NY, or perhaps Rutland Co., VT, which is adjacent to New York.
A family tree at Ancestry.com gives his parents as Samuel and Lucy (Johnson) Whitney. This is supported by the 1850 census record below. If so, we are still at a dead end, because the identity of that Samuel Whitney is not known, either.
