William M. Whitney (John), son of John and Jane (Gilson) Whitney, was born about 1 Jun 1824, Chester, VT, or Lowell, MA, and died 27 Jun 1874, Great Barrington, MA, aged 50 years 26 days, of peritonitis.[1]
Marriage intentions were published 19 Dec 1843, Lowell, MA, for him and Ann M. Carrigin "both of Lowell".[2] He married firstly, Ann Maria Carrigan, daughter of John and Catherine (-----) Carrigan. She was born about 1820, Ireland, and died 19 Oct 1857, Lowell, MA, aged 44 years, of paralysis.[3]
He married secondly, 2 Feb 1861, Lowell, MA, Mary A. (McCauley) Wells, daughter of Peter and Mary A. McCauley.[4] She was born about 1831, Ireland, and died after 1874.

Whitney, b. 19 Dec 1854, Lowell, MA [given name omitted];[11] d. 2 Sep 1855, Lowell, MA, aged 8 months 22 days, of teething.[12] v. Ann M. Whitney, b. 29 Dec 1856, Lowell, MA [given name omitted];[13] d. 18 Apr 1860, Lowell, MA, aged 3 years 3 months 20 days, of consumption.[14]
