Family:Whitney, William Wood (c1809-a1880)

William Wood⁸ Whitney (George⁷, Ephraim⁶, David⁵, Nathaniel⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of George⁷ and Miriam (Hunt) Whitney, was born about 1808, Enfield, MA, and died after 1880.

He married, before 1834, Elizabeth White of Rochester, NY. She was born about 1815, England, and died 1869, Mazomanie, WI.

He was a millwright.

From History of Dane County (Western Historical Company: Chicago, 1880), p. 1055 (Town of Mazomanie):

"WILLIAM W. WHITNEY, farmer and millwright, Mazomanie; was born in Enfield, Mass., in 1808; his parents removed to Delaware Co., N. Y., about 1811; he resided for many years in the State of New York; learned his trade, that of millwright, at Scottsville, that State, where he worked about thirteen years. He was married to Elizabeth White, of Rochester, where he resided about two years; came to Mazomanie in May 1845; lived in the town of Wheatland, Racine Co. one year, then bought a farm in Mukwonago, where he lived until 1866, when he came to Mazomanie; his wife died in 1869. He has five daughters--Miriam, now Mrs. O. B. Haselton; Martha E., wife of L. Andrews, merchant of Mukwonago, Wis.; Cora, resides at home; Florence, telegraph operator at Prairie Du Chien; and Ella, by profession a teacher."
