In 1850 Jacob Doan crossed the plains to California arriving in Sacramento the day the State was admitted to the Union. After a short stay in that place, he proceeded to the mines of Calaveras Count and prosecuted his search for gold, at Memphis and Douglas Flat, for five years. Harriet Jane Whitney, married 21 Nov 1853, Calaveras County, California, Jacob A Doan, son of Joseph and Eliza D. (Carpenter) Doan. He was born 15 Sep 1828, Wilmington, Clinton, Ohio, and died 21 Nov 1902, Gilroy, Santa Clara County, California.
