Joel6 Whitney (Micah5, Abel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Micah5 and Hannah (Cobb) Whitney, was born 7 May 1787, Gorham or Phillips, ME, and died 22 Mar 1852, Saint Paul, MN.

He married secondly, 1836, Farmington, ME, Sarah (Ramsdell) Crompton. She was born 25 Mar 1802, Farmington, ME, and died before 21 Feb 1840, Plymouth, ME. She had married firstly, 29 Mar 1821, Farmington, ME, Samuel Crompton.

He married thirdly, 21 Feb or 23 May 1840, Unity, ME, Betsey (Chase) Ayer. She was born 30 Mar 1796, Unity, ME. She had married firstly, 23 Jan 1817, Unity, ME, Benjamin Ayer, Jr. She married thirdly, 18 Jan 1864, Readfield, ME, Dudley Moody.

He was born in Gorham, ME, married at Phillips, where he was a general merchant. In 1838 he moved to Plymouth, ME, where, after a residence of ten years, he moved to Portland. In 1851, he moved to St. Paul, where he died the following year. He was buried at Phillips. He resided Phillips, Plymouth and Portland, ME, and Saint Paul, MN.

viii. Eliab Latham Whitney, b. 6 Jun 1830 or 18 May 1831, Phillips, ME; m. Helen M. Burbanks.

Notes

Trinity, ME, apparently does not and never did exist, despite the statement by Pierce that Joel's third marriage occurred there. That marriage is recorded as occurring 23 May 1840, Waldo Co., ME. Two towns in Waldo County had names similar to Trinity: Unity and Liberty. Since Betsey Chase was born in Unity, ME, and her first husband Benjamin Ayer, Jr., was enumerated there in the 1830 census, this is undoubtedly the correct location.
