Family:Whitney, Oreson (1806-1892)

Oreson8 Whitney (Luke7, William6, William5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Luke7 and Cynthia (Partridge) Whitney, was born 12 Jan 1806, Gardner, MA.[1] He died 10 Jan 1892, Richmondville, NY and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Portlandville, Otsego, NY.[2]

He married, first, Amanda Chase. She married, secondly, Homer Blackman and they resided in Brooklyn, NY, Mankato, MN, and Leavenworth, KS. She died San Jose, CA and is buried with Homer at Mount Muncie Cemetery in Lansing, KS.

He married secondly, 2 Mar 1836, Cobleskill Reformed Church, New Rhinebeck, NY, Julia Ann Lory, daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth (Markel) Lory. She was born 25 Oct 1817, NY, and died 24 Apr 1867. She was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Portlandville, NY.[3]

He married thirdly, between 1867 and 1870, Mary Ann (Rasbach) Quackenbush, daughter of Adam Marks and Elizabeth (Balde) Quackenbush. She was born 1819, NY, and died 11 Sep 1881, Herkimer, NY. She was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, NY.[4] She had married firstly, Isaac Quackenbush, from whom she was apparently divorced, and who died Dec 1875.

i. James Osgood9 Whitney, b. 31 Dec 1831; m. Maria Drury.
ii. Maj. Charles Ozro9 Whitney, b. 31 Jan 1834, VT. d. 27 Aug 1875, Sulphur Springs, Rhea County, TN. Left issue.
iii. Eliza Ann Whitney, m.(1) J. B. Hammatt. Traveled the United States as a Spiritualist "test medium" under the name E. A. Hammatt. Resided in Encinitas, CA; attempted to establish a "home for mediums" there. Died 27 Apr 1908, California.

i. Cynthia Whitney, b. 10 Apr 1837, Milford, NY; d. 24 May 1898; bur. Richmondville Cemetery, Richmondville, NY; m. 9 Jul 1855, Sylvester Memford Van Alstyne.
ii. Catharine Whitney, b. 22 Apr 1839, NY; d. 19 Aug 1894, Grand Island, NE; bur. Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island, NE;[5] m. ca. 1889, Gustave A. Koehler.
iii. Harrison Whitney9, b. 26 Jul 1842, Worcester, NY; m.(1) Ella Wager; m.(2) Emma Layton.
iv. Mary E. Whitney, b. 2 Sep 1847, NY; d. 31 Jul 1890, Englewood [?NJ?]; m. [prob. Samuel] Warner.
v. Cecelia Whitney, b. 2 Apr 1850, NY; "Celia" m. ca. 1869, William H. Hull.

Oreson8 and Mary Ann (Rasbach)(Quackenbush) Whitney had no children.
