A Y-chromosome study from John Whitney would require male descent in every generation. A mitochondrial DNA study would likewise require a straight female line from Elinor. Once a line goes from father to daughter, or from mother to son, the chain is broken and no study can be made. If you're not on the outer branches of the tree, you ain't gonna shake no peaches this way! By the way, is there anyone in the group with a purely female descent from Elinor? If not, what is the longest known line of female descent?
