Which John is Which?
Robert:
My approach here would be to check and fill in the documentation on the two families. Try to follow these families, including the siblings of the two children in question, through the census to see if any patterns emerge. Also, Asa & Ira need pages of their own - following them might bring clues to light as well. What made you place them with Family:Whitney, John (1784-1871)? We don't know why Pierce placed them with the other family, but from his outline, his details on that family were very scarce.

Capt. David Whitney

Compare this query with the information on Family:Whitney, David (1716-a1764). The marriage seems to match, but the parentage and later details (death location) for David do not match. Thoughts?

Progress on Thomas of Westminster?
Hi Richard, You may or may not remember me, I transcribed a couple of wills a year or so ago for your group. Anyway, at that time we were emailing back and forth and you thought that maybe you had a breakthrough in the Whitney line, or you were really close. Whatever happened with that? I have a relative that is very interested in all of this and I think he is willing to finance some research. Could you contact me and maybe we could talk? Thanks, - Beth Breinholt
Horace B. Whitney
Robert - please take a look at Family:Whitney, Horace Burnham (1830-1882). Note the m. in 1848 to Lucetta Frazier, supported by the marriage extracts. Also, in the census records, he and Lucetta are listed near other Frazier families, and the Horace Whitney, same age, married to Virginia, is also listed near these Frazier families in later census records, so I am fairly certain they are the same man.
Compare this family to Horace Burnham, son of Family:Whitney, Luther (1777-a1833). Pierce lists nothing but his first name. You added the additional information (middle name, marriage, death date) on 9/14/07, but with no sources. The wife's name and place of marriage matches, but the dates do not match at all (birth, marriage, or death). Where did you get the dates? Is this a case of two Horace B. Whitneys, perhaps father and son of uncle and nephew?

Jason Frost Whitney
How can I tie Jason Frost Whitney (8) as the son of Marshall Frost Whitney (7)? My line seems to break at this point.
Mary Whitney Phelps

Can you help to identify the Mary Whitney, b. 5 Jan 1812 Portland, ME, d. 26 Jan 1878, Springfield, MO, who m. 30 Apr 1837, John Smith Phelps, who became Governor of Missouri?

Although many pages online list her as being from Portland, ME, this page lists her as from Hartford.

Mary Whitney Phelps again

According to Archive:Buffalo, New York, Directories, there were 3 Whitney families in Buffalo in 1832 - a joiner with no listed first name who I have been unable to identify, Family:Whitney, Zerah (1784-1873) who was only there briefly and who moved away later that same here, and a man listed as "W. A. Whitney". Now I haven't been able to locate a "W.A.", but I *did* find a W.H. Whitney who was known to be in Erie County. Family:Whitney, William Henry (1779-1853) died in Aurora, Erie Co., NY. My suspicion in that the middle initial was either a transcription error, or someone said "H" and someone else heard "A". Very, very interesting is that this family had a daughter Maria, born 5 Jan 1817. I suspect that someone else mis-transcribed the "7" in 1817 as a "2".
Note that Aurora is just outside of Buffalo. Also, there is a Portland, NY in Erie Co.
Thoughts?
I am going to see what I can do to expand this family group this evening.
