Tim, thanks for the welcome. My name is David H Whitney son of Donald H Whitney from New York. My father received results from the 12-marker test showing a connection to Adam Whitney and Michael Ray Whitney. I understand they are part of the Southern Whitney family documented here at WRG. Recently my father upgraded to the 37-marker test and is waiting for the results. We're both very curious to learn more about our connection to the southern Whitney's but we're having trouble tracing our lineage back further than New York 1865. I'll briefly enter what I know here and hopefully you can provide some guidance on what our next step should be.
My Grandfather was Henry David Whitney born 1909, Mount Vernon, NY. Some records list his name as Harry.
Great Grandfather was Harry W Whitney born 1865. Died in Westchester County, NY around 1915. We were told from one source he was born in NY but another source believes he may have been born in England.
Harry W appears in the 1900 and 1910 census living in Westchester County, NY. The census says he was born in NY but we're not sure if this is correct. There is no Harry or Henry Whitney in the 1870 or 1880 census that was born in NY around 1865. He got married in NY around 1890 to Bridget Greaney. I cannot find any 1890 US Census info. Our biggest problem has been trying to find out his father's name.
There is a Harry Whitney in the 1881 British census born 1865. He is not listed in the 1891 British census which leads me to believe this is a possibility. Should we be focusing on England or continue to pursue 1865 NY? Our one source still claims he was born in Manhattan, NY. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, David Whitney

New York State Census Records
David:
I would suggest checking the New York State Census records for 1892, 1905, and 1915 for this family. Since Henry and Bridget were married about 1890, they should be listed together in 1892, and could very well be living with a relative so early in their marriage. The other years might just find a Whitney relative living with them that wasn't in the household during the Federal census years. These records, as far as I am aware, are not available online yet, so you'll have to order them on microfilm. Let me know if you need further instructions on this.

Edits to Harry's Page
Hi Don, and thank you for jumping in and making changes to Harry Whitney's page! The update to his marriage date is great to have.
I do think we should put back the (child) Whitney that I had in the family. In the 1900 census, it clearly states that Bridget was the mother of 4 children, 3 of whom were still surviving. This means that there was one other child who had died young, before 1900. Because of the marriage date and the dates of the other children, this other child would have been born about 1898 or 1899. Do you agree? Because this child died young, they may not have been remembered in family tradition, so that may be why you didn't know about him/her.
