You indicated that you had your line traced back to Ralph Ora Whitney and his father Charles W. Whitney. Because Charles married Melvina, I am pretty sure that he is the Charles Whitney listed in the household of Abner Orr in 1860 as Mr. Orr, a hotel keeper, had a daughter Melvina of the right age to be his wife. This also is key, as his occupation is listed as a painter. In 1850, there is a Whitney family in Erie Co. with a Charles of the correct age to be your Charles. In addition, this Charles' elder brother "Rely Whitney" was listed as a painter. I believe this extends your lineage back a generation, adding in William M. Whitney, b. ca. 1802 or 1805, Vermont.

Also, Could this William M. Whitney have been the same man as William Morris Whitney, b. 5 Jan 1802, the son of Jonas and Catherine (Parker) Whitney?

More Information

Never mind about William Morris Whitney listed above, I think your William is the William, b. 18 Oct 1804, son of Henry and Fanny (Miller) Whitney. This could were previously from Vermont (matching up with the statement that William's parents had been born in Vermont), and better yet, their last place of residence was Aurora, Erie Co., NY.

Liz:

The information in your family Bible would be of great interest! I'm sure there are other Whitney descendants out there who would love to know what information might be in that Bible. Would it be possible for you to transcribe it and submit it to the site here?

Thanks!
