WILLIAM PEACE WHITNEY was the second child, and oldest son of Micah Whitney and Hannah Cobb. He was born in Gorham, Maine 3 May 1783. William married Sarah Frank, who was born in Gray, Maine- at least she lived there when she married. Sarah died 20 August 1815, after the birth of her seventh child, at the age of about thirty. This is recorded at Phillips, Maine. William remarried to Nancy Canton of Letter B Plantation, Maine, on 27 October 1823.

William was a blacksmith by trade and a Freewill Baptist Circuit Rider Minister. He probably had already gone to Phillips before 1815 and lived there at least through the year 1857 when his son George was born. When he went west, he went to DearBorn Co., Indiana first and then to Sycamore, DeKalb Co., Illinois. It has been recorded that he lived in the Colby Whittemore house and owned a number of acres of land in a section where the Milia Ross house and the blacksmith shop once stood, as he gave that land to his daughter, Sally (Whitney) Quimby. He had twelve children recorded in Phillips, the same number as his father, Micah. William lived in Gorham, Gray and Phillips, Maine. c- William Whitney Quimby b. 18 April 1830; He lived to an old age in Phillips. His wifes maiden name was Hawkes; operated a tannery on the Sandy River in the lower village. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. They had no children, but raised Lena Hawkes Winter.
d- Stephen Hart b. 1833; lived to an old age in Phillips, in the Quimby-Ross house; a stone mason by trade. never married.
e- Sara Jane b. 31 Jan 1844, d. 15 July 1928. m. Charles C. Bangs in 1870; lived in Phillips. Charles was b. 1838, d. 1881

William Peace Whitney b. 5 May 1783, Cumberland Co., Mass. remarried Nancy J. Carlton on 27 Oct 1823 in Phillips, Maine. d. 19 Dec 1863, Cortland, Illinois, buried in Ohio Grove Cemetery, Cortland, DeKalb, Illinois. Nancy b. 30 Nov 1806, Cumberland Co., Maine. William was a circuit rider minister of the Freewill Baptist Church and a blacksmith by trade.

Lucy had been married to Abel Huddleston; m. 10 Oct. 1855- He died 10 Oct 1902.
