James⁵ Whitney ([prob.] James⁴, Eleazer³, Thomas², John¹), probably that James, son of James⁴ and Mercy (Flagg) Whitney, who was born 26 Oct 1743, Waltham, MA,^[1] and died 18 Aug 1799, Ludlow, VT.

He married, 14 Jun 1763, Brookline, MA, Mary Thayer,^[2] daughter of Daniel and Ruth (Clark) Thayer. She was born 27 Feb 1743, Braintree, MA, and died unknown.

He served from Marlborough, MA, as a corporal in the Revolutionary War.

He resided in Winchester, NH, and Ludlow, VT.
