Family:Whitney, Benjamin (1770-1852)

Capt. Benjamin⁶ Whitney (Jonas⁵, David⁴, Benjamin³, John², John¹), son of Jonas⁵ and Sarah (Whittemore) Whitney, was born 28 Apr 1770, Westminster, MA,^[1] and died 27 Jun 1852, Marlborough, NH

He married, 19 Jun 1794, Westminster, MA, Nancy Fuller.^[2] She was born 14 Feb 1767, Newton, MA, and died 20 Sep 1855.

He was a noted school teacher in his younger days, was prominent in town affairs and captain of the local military company. Was selectman for several years. and was town clerk for several years. Though not a professor of religion he was an upright and moral man, a good citizen and kind neighbor. He resided Marlborough, NH.

Their children were 7; Benjamin Whitney Sawtell, Jr., b. 5 Aug 1845, d. 19 Aug 1856; Harriet Elizabeth, b. 18 Aug 1847, d. 28 Jan 1867; Rebecca Addielade, b. 26 Aug 1849; m. 27 Sep 1883, Charles W. Marsh, residing Fells Station, Melrose, MA; then two small children d. in infancy of Benjamin W. Sawtell's family, afterwards were Ida Whitney, b. 5 Nov 1867; m. 4 Jul 1889, Charles S. Chapman, residing 20 Bartlett St., Charlestown, MA (one child) Mildred Viola Chapman, b. 4 Apr 1890; Herbert Russell Sawtell, b. 16 Sep 1869, resided 20 Bartlett St., Charlestown, MA.
iii.	Ruhannah Whitney, b. 11 Jan 1798; m. 28 Mar 1826, Jeremiah R. Needham, of Hollis, NH, 2 sons. She d. Hollis.
iv.	Sarah Whitney, b. 28 Apr 1799; m. 14 May 1829, Joel Baker, of Milford, NH. She d. there.
v.	Lydia Whitney, b. 15 May 1800; d. 7 Mar 1872, Jaffrey, NH; m. 6 Dec 1836, Abner Bailey, of Jaffrey, NH.
vi.	Benjamin Whitney, b. 25 May 1802; m. Elmira Stimpson.
vii.	Sophronia Whitney, b. 25 Nov 1803; m. 22 Jan 1829, Moses Parmerter; resided Pepperell, MA and she d. there. He was b. 19 Aug 1803, d. 11 Nov 1863. He was a cabinet maker. Ch.: Eliza Maria Parmerter, b. 28 Feb 1830, Nashua, NH; m. 15 Sep 1853, James Hobart. Present address East Pepperell, MA; ch., James Francis, b. 14 Jul 1854, East Pepperell; m.
