John W.3 Whitney (William W.2, Thomas1), son of William W.2 Whitney was born 10 Oct 1829.

He married, say 1840, Zerilda -----, b. ca. 1815 or 1822, KY.

John W. was his third son, born Oct. 10, 1829, and trained in Jefferson Medical College, and a resident of St. Joseph's Hospital, Phila. - Whitney Whistler.

John W. Whitney, father of H.C. Whitney, was a physician in Lexington and grandson of Thomas Whitney of Ireland His father, John W. Whitney, was a physician, a graduate of Transylvania University, who was a victim of cholera in 1849, when there was a great epidemic of this dread disease.

"On Tuesday last week 14 deaths, on Wednesday 11, on Thursday six deaths, on Friday seven deaths including Dr. Whitney, Dr. Brockaway died in the county." - Lexington Public Library's Local History Index, referencing Observer and Reporter p. 3 col. 1, 7 Jul 1849 (not sure if this refers to John or William).

i. M. B.4 Whitney (daughter), b. ca. 1841.
ii. Henry C. Whitney, b. 5 Sep 1844.
iii. Joseph H. Whitney, b. Oct 1846, KY. He resided with his brother Henry in 1900 where he was single and working as a well driller.
