Abel6 Whitney (Timothy5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Timothy5 and Alice (Whitney) Whitney,[1] was born 29 Sep 1752, Harvard, MA,[2] and died 7 Aug 1807, Guilford, VT, in his 59th year.[3]

He married 1 Nov 1775, Petersham, MA, Elizabeth Spenny,[4] parentage unknown.[5] She was born about 1753;[6] died 15 Feb 1795, Guilford, VT, in her 42nd year.[7]

He resided Harvard, MA, and Guilford, VT.

i. Abel7 Whitney, b. ca. 1778, m.(1) Anna -----, and m.(2) Betsey Phillips, according to Guilford, Windham Co., VT, vital records. (The Abel Whitney who married Abigail H. Townsend was his cousin).
ii. Betsey E. Whitney, b. 4 Apr 1781, VT; d. 12 Jun 1872, Grafton, Lorain Co., OH; m. 28 Nov 1799, Guilford, VT, Frederick Lynde, b. 14 May 1773, d. 20 Jun 1865, Grafton, Lorain Co., OH.
iii. Silas Whitney, b. say 1783; no further record found.
iv. Ward Whitney, b. say 1785; no further record found.
v. Sarah Whitney, b. say 1788; no further record found.
vi. Rufus Whitney, b. 13 Mar 1791 (twin), Guilford, VT; d. after 1850. He is probably the Rufus Whitney who m.(1) 8 Jul 1816, Athens, VT, Sally Holden (that couple had child Roxey Whitney, b. 20 Feb 1830, Westfield, Orleans Co., VT); m.(2) before 1836, Mary -----.
vii. Thaddeus Whitney, b. 13 Mar 1791 (twin), Guilford, VT; d. after 1850; m. 7 Oct 1818, Guilford, VT, Rhoda Greenleaf, b. 6 Aug 1796, Guilford, VT.
