Family:Whitney, Isaac (1773-1807)

Capt. Isaac⁶ Whitney (Samuel⁵, Samuel⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of Samuel⁵ and Martha (Howes) Whitney, was born 1773, was baptized 1 Aug 1775, Episcopal Church, Stratford, CT, and died 14 Jan 1807, Watertown, CT, aged 33 years,^[1] of "the lake fever".

He married, 15 Jan 1798, Watertown, CT, Susannah Bryan, daughter of David and Jane (-----) Bryan. She was born about 1777, CT, and died 16 Mar 1861. She allegedly married second, Hon. Gideon Buckingham, but the 1850 census gives her surname as "Whitney".

They settled in Watertown, CT, and in 1805 he purchased land of Jonathan Scott. He resided there until his death of the lake fever. After his death she disposed of the property, and in 1816 moved to Westerlo, NY, where she resided until 1828, after which she resided with her daughter Sally, and died at her home in Clarkson, NY. He resided Claverack, NY, and Watertown, CT.

Phoenix says the following:

"Isaac Whitney, b. in Stratford, Conn., about the latter part of 1773; bap. in the Episcopal Church in Stratford, 1 Aug. 1775, though his name is not stated in the record; a tanner; went to Claverack, N.Y., to learn the shoemakers trade, but did not continue at it; married, 15 Jan. 1798, at Watertown, Conn., Susanna Bryan, who was, it is thought, of Milford, Conn. She was daughter of David and Jane Bryan. Her children say that her mother's name was Jane Buckingham, of Old Milford, Conn.; but it seems quite probable that this name came not by birth, but rather by a second marriage, with Hon. Gideon Buckingham.1 They settled in Watertown, Conn., where he bought, 13 Ap. 1805, of Jonathan Scott, one acre of land, "about one mile south of the Presbiterean meeting house in said Watertown." Here he dwelt till his death, of "the lake fever", 14 Jan. 1807, aged 33 years. He was buried the next day, in the old cemetery, in Watertown, directly opposite his house, where his grave stone was standing in 1873. She was baptized and admitted to the Congregational Church in Watertown, in September 1807, and had her three children baptized at the same time. As guardian of her children, properly authorized, she sold their place in Watertown, 28 Oct 1816, and taking from the church a letter of dismission, the date of which does not appear, moved with her little family, in Nov. 1816, to Westerlo, N.Y., where she dwelt till the Autumn of 1828. She then went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Sally (Whitney) Snyder, at Clarkson, N.Y., where she died, 16 March 1861, and was buried in the cemetery of the Presbyterian Church at Clarkson Corners. She was a very intelligent woman, a kind mother, and an exemplary Christian."

Capt. Whitney's wife was admitted to the church, [ ] Feb 1800.^[2]

Widow Susanna Whitney was baptized and admitted to the church, [ ] Sep 1807, Watertown, CT.^[3]

He d. 1 Dec 1879; was a farmer. Adam and Sallie Snyder died and were buried in Clarkson, Monroe County, NY. Ch.: Isaac Whitney, b. 26 Jun 1827; d. 26 Jun 1827, Westerlo, Albany County, NY; Henry Nettleton, b. 24 May 1831, Clarkson, Monroe County, NY; m. 18 Oct 1876, Unadilla, MI, Carrie Eugenia Lyman; present address, Bureau of Pensions, Middle Dept., Washington, DC.
ii.	Susanna Whitney, b. 5 Dec 1800, Watertown, CT; bapt. Sep 1807, Watertown, CT;[5] d. Mar 1821, Westerlo, NY, and was buried in the Snyder Cemetery, at Westerlo.
iii.	Isaac John Whitney, b. 20 Dec 1803, Watertown, CT; bapt. Sep 1807, Watertown, CT;[6] m. Martha Ann Rowell.
