Samuel4 Whitney (Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Nathaniel3 and Sarah (Hagar) Whitney, was baptized 17 Jul 1687, Watertown, MA,[1] and died 6 Dec 1753, Stratford, CT, in 66th year.[2]

Samuel married, 18 Jan 1720/21, Stratford, CT, Anne Laboree, daughter of Rev. James and Jeanne (Resseguie) Laboree. She was born circa 1700, prob. Stratford, CT. She married secondly, 23 Jul 1759, Greenfield, CT, Benjamin Banks (1682-1760), as his third wife.[3]

He lived circa 1710 at Stratford, CT.

She joined the Episcopal Church at Stratford, CT, on 6 Apr 1735.[4]

Phoenix says the following:[5]

. . . . He had previously bought a home-lot and dwelling-house of Samuel Hawley, in Stratford, to wit, 9 Jan. 1718-19; and he and his wife "owned the covenant" in the Congregational Church, in Stratford, 7 July 1723. He bought land at Woodend, in Stratford, 5 March 1735-6, of Rev. Samuel Johnson, for £26. His gravestone, in the old Congregational Cemetery, in Stratford, bears the following inscription:
Here lies buried

the Body of Mr.
SAMUEL WHITNEY
who Departed this
Life December ye
6th 1753, in ye 60th

year of his age.
The date of her death does not appear; but she was living in Stratford, 23 Aug. 1754, as on that date she had recorded there a life-lease of part of a house and lot, given by Samuel Whitney, Jr., 25 Sept. 1751, to "his honoured father and mother Samuel Whitney, Senr., and Anne Whitney, Senr.," for "ye Consideration of Duty and affection," which lease was indexed in the name of Widow Ann Whitney. It is possible that she was a daughter of Dr. James Laborie, of Stratford, who died before 4 June 1741, when the inventory of his estate was presented by Thomas Salmon and Samuel Whitney.

Pierce says the following:[6]

Samuel was the son of Nathaniel WHITNEY of Weston, for in the administrator's account of his (the father's) estate he refers to him as "son of Stratford." Stephen Whitney PHOENIX, in his extensive genealogy of Henry WHITNEY, of Connecticut, and his descendants, is in error in giving the descendants of Samuel and claiming that he was of the Connecticut family. Samuel owned the covenant in the Congregational church at Stratford July 7, 1723. His grave stone reads as follows:
Here lies buried
the body of Mr.
Samuel WHITNEY
who Departed this
Life December ye
6, 1753, in ye 66th
year of his age.
His wife survived him, for in 1754 she had a life lease of certain premises of her son.
