Capt. Benjamin6 Whitney (Jonas5, David4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Jonas5 and Sarah (Whittemore) Whitney; born Westminster, Massachusetts 28 Apr 1770; married 1794, Nancy Fuller, born Newton, Massachusetts, 14 Feb 1767; died 20 Sep 1855.
He was a noted school teacher in his younger days, was prominent in town affairs and captain of the local military company. Was selectman for several years. and was town clerk for several years. Though not a professor of religion he was an upright and moral man, a good citizen and kind neighbor. He died 27 Jun 1852; resided Marlborough, New Hampshire.
Children of Benjamin6 and Nancy (Fuller) Whitney:
i. Benjamin7 Whitney, born 25 May 1802; married Elmira Stimpson. ii. Nancy Whitney, born 2 Dec 1796; m, 2 Jun 1819, Solomon Sawtell, of Rindge, New Hampshire. She died 17 Apr 1864. He was born 6 Apr 1786; died Dec. 13, 1861; was a shoemaker. Ch.; Benjamin Whitney Sawtell, 20 Bartlett St., Charlestown, Massachusetts; John L. Sawtell, Mansfield, Massachusetts; Mrs. Jane L. S. Richardson, 51 Arlington St. Fitchburg, Massachusetts; Amaziah Sawtell, 292 Randolph St., Detroit, Michigan; Edwin Sawtell, 695 N. Main St., Brockton, Massachusetts. Benjamin Whitney Sawtell married Rebecca Ann Jessop, 6 Nov 1844. Their children were 7; Benjamin Whitney Sawtell, Jr., born Aug 5, 1845, died Aug. 19, 1856; Harriet Elizabeth, born 18 Aug 1847, died 28 Jan 1867; Rebecca Addielade, born 26 Aug 1849; married 27 Sep 1883 to Charles W. Marsh, residing Fells Station, Melrose, Massachusetts; then two small children died in infancy of Benjamin W. Sawtell's family, afterwards were Ida Whitney, born 5 Nov 1867; married 4 Jul 1889, to Charles S. Chapman, residing 20 Bartlett St., Charlestown, Massachusetts (one child) Mildred Viola Chapman, born 4 Apr 1890; Herbert Russell Sawtell, born 16 Sep 1869, resided 20 Bartlett St., Charlestown, Massachusetts. iii. Ruhannah Whitney, born 11 Jan 1798; married 28 Mar 1826, Jeremiah R. Needham, of Hollis, New Hampshire, 2 sons. She died in Hollis. iv. Sarah Whitney, born 28 Apr 1799; married 14 May 1829, Joel Baker, of Milford, New Hampshire. She died there. v. Lydia Whitney, born 15 May 1800; married 6 Dec 1836, Abner Bailey, of Jaffery, New Hampshire. She died there 7 Mar 1872. vi. Sophronia Whitney, born 25 Nov 1803, married 22 Jan 1829, Moses Parmerter; resided Pepperell, Massachusetts and she died there. He was born Aug. 19, 1803, died 11 Nov 1863. He was a cabinet maker. Ch.; Eliza Maria Parmerter, born Nashua, New Hampshire, 28 Feb 1830; married to James Hobart 15 Sep 1853. Present address East Pepperell, Massachusetts; ch., James Francis, born East Pepperell 14 Jul 1854; married Nov. 1878, Present address, Hartford, Connecticut, "The Linden," room 47; Hattie Hobart, born 18 Jul 1861. East Pepperell, Massachusetts; married 15 Oct 1880, at E. Pepperell, Massachusetts. Present address, Mrs. Hattie Hobart, Libby, E. Pepperell, Massachusetts; Charles Whitney Parmenter, born in East Wilton, New Hampshire 10 Jan 1832; died Nashua, New Hampshire; Mrs. E. Maude Harvey, 36 Otterson St., Nashua, New Hampshire. vii. Jonas Whitney, born 4 Jul 1805, married Charlotte Farman. viii. Syrena Whitney, born 16 Oct 1808; married 7 May 1846, Louis Mcintire, of Ashburnham, Massachusetts, where she died 9 Jul 1851. ix. Harriett Whitney, born 22 May 1812; married 15 Sep 1835, James Hobart; resided Pepperell, Massachusetts. x. Benjamin Whitney, born 29 Oct 1795; died infancy. xi. Lucy Whitney, born 8 Oct 1807; died 11 Nov 1807.
