Solomon Eli8 Whitney (Benjamin7, Silas6, David5, Benjamin4, Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), son of Benjamin7 and Mary (-----) Whitney, was born 23 Nov 1807, Clarendon, VT, and died 13 Aug 1859, Sandy Hill, Warren County, New York.

He married 12 Nov 1833, Saratoga Co., NY, Susan Woodworth, daughter of Leonard and Sarah (Parks) Woodworth. She was born 27 Aug 1811, Whitehall, Washington Co., NY, and died 1880, Cohoes, Albany Co., NY.

Solomon was a lumberman.

Saratoga County Deeds, "Land and Property" records:

Grantee - Solomon E. Whitney, Grantor - Hiram Parks, Deed Book WW, page 255 Type deed-Lease, Year-1846.[1] This is a supposed timber lease for cutting timber. Hiram Parks lived very near to Solomon Whitney's family. This lease was first issued by Solomon Parks and wife Susanna. Solomon Parks died and left this property to his son. The lease was sold on 5 May 1846 for $325 and transferred to Hiram Kingon.

"QUEENSBURY, was organized in 1788. The soil in the E. part of the town is a strong and productive loam, in the W. it is sandy. Pop. 3,664. The village of Glenn's Falls, in this town, lies on the N. bank of the Hudson, 53 miles from Albany, 3 W. from Sandy Hill (now Hudson Falls), and 17 from Saratoga. It received its name from a Mr. Glenn, the first settler, whose house is still standing about 20 rods from the falls."[2]

"QUEENSBURY was incorporated by patent as a township, May 20, 1762, and embraced 2,300 acres. It was reorganized as a town March 13, 1786. Luzerne was taken off in 1792, and a part of Caldwell in 1810. A strip of territory one mile wide was taken from Luzerne and added to this town in 1802. It lies between Lake George and the Hudson River, in the south-east corner of Warren Co. The west part is occupied by the Luzerne Mountains, and the extreme north part by French Mountain, a high, rocky bluff, which rises precipitously from the surface of Lake George to the height of 2,500 or 3,000 feet above tide. The central and south parts are rolling, gradually declining towards the south. The soil is a light sandy loam in the interior, and a deep tough clay upon the river. The fall upon the Hudson at Glens Falls is about fifty feet, and affords valuable mill privileges. Below the fall is a small island, through which is a cave extending from one channel to the other. The manufacture of lumber is extensively carried on. An immense number of logs is floated down from the pine forests above, to Glens Falls, Sandy Hill and Fort Edward."[3]
