Otis Crocker Whitney, (Ephraim), son of Ephraim and Polly (Crocker) Whitney, was born 27 Apr 1814, Machias, Washington Co., ME, and died 19 Sep 1892, MT.
He "of Machias" married firstly, 23 Dec 1833, Washington Co., ME, Mary Brown "of Machiasport".[1] She was born about 1817, ME, and died between 1851 and 1860.
He married secondly, before 1866, Ellen E. Hill. She was born about 1837, AR, and died after 1880.
About 1839 Otis migrated to settle in the new town of Northfield, ME, where he became Justice of the Peace, surveyor, town clerk and numerous other positions, probably because there were so few people there to fill them.
Otis Whitney left Minnesota in 1863 for Montana. He took a new wife with him, Ellen (Hill) and homesteaded, raised horses and cattle and ranched near Virginia City, Montana.
