John Angier6 Whitney (George5, Jason4, Mark3, Benjamin2, John1), son of George5 and Esther (Morse) Whitney, born 20 Dec 1817, Natick, MA;[1] died 21 Aug 1899, Saint John, NB.

He married firstly, 27 May 1839, Natick, MA, Emily A. Walker, of Natick,[2] parentage unknown. She was born in 1820, and died 11 Oct 1844, Dedham, MA, aged 24, of fever.[3]

He married secondly, 26 Oct 1852, Framingham, MA, Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Thomson, of Saint John, New Brunswick, daughter of William and Emily (Coxetter) Thomson.[4] She was born 26 Feb 1829, Saint John, and died 26 Apr 1904, Natick, MA.[5]

He was born in Natick and has always resided there; has been a prominent citizen. For some years he was assessor of taxes, later was enumerator for the United States census. Also conducted a farm and engaged in the manufacture of shoes. He was a "shoe clerk" at the birth of son George in 1844. He was a "farmer" at his second marriage in 1852.

John A. Whitney and Emily Ann Whitney were both admitted to the church Dedham, MA, 16 Apr 1843.[6]

Children of John Angier6 and Emily (Walker) Whitney:

i. George Burgess7 Whitney, b. 9 or 10 Sep 1844, Dedham, MA.[7] He was a soldier in Company H, 13th Massachusetts Regiment; was a book-keeper and shoe manufacturer and was killed in a railroad accident in Natick, 23 Jul 1878, aged 33 years 10 months 13 days, of "injury by Steam Engine on B. & A. R. R. Shock".[8] He was enumerated in 1850 census with John A., no mother. He m. 29 Aug 1867, Natick, Mary E. Wilson, aged 20, born Natick, daughter of William H. and Sarah (Hobbs) Wilson.[9] She appears in the 1880 Census, in Natick.

iii. John Coxetter Whitney, b. 8 Aug 1855; d. Jan 1935; m. 11 Nov 1880, Flora S. Matheson; resided Natick, Massachusetts.
iv. Louis Mitchell Whitney, b. 14 Jun 1857; m. 6 Sep 1881, Emma Horton; resided Natick, Massachusetts.
v. William Oscar Whitney, b. 12 Nov 1859; m. Lena Ida Bird.
vi. Emily Blanche Whitney, b. 15 Oct 1861; d. 17 Apr 1880, Natick, MA, aged 18 years of pleuro pneumo w/tuber.[11]
vii. James Coxetter Whitney, b. 5 Sep 1863; died 27 Nov 1893; married 18 Sep 1890, Maria Louise Horton of Saint John, New Brunswick.
viii. Waldo Orville Whitney, b. 3 Jan 1865; d. 9 Nov 1945; m. 12 Sep 1899, Alice June Perry of Natick; resided Natick. Children:
a. Lucile8 Whitney, b. 19 Feb 1901, Boston, MA.[12]
ix. Elizabeth Maude "Lizzie" Whitney, b. 31 Aug 1869; resided Natick.

A different John A. Whitney was admitted to the church Dedham, MA, 24 Jun 1832, and was dismissed to the First Church in Newton Dedham, MA, 1 Feb 1841.
