Family:Whitney, Solomon (1790-1843)

Solomon⁶ Whitney (Tarball⁵, Solomon⁴, David³, Joshua², John¹), son of Tarball⁵ and Lois (Lawrence)(Hopkins) Whitney, was born 29 Apr 1790, Poultney, VT, and died 26 Nov 1843, Van Buren, IN.

He married, 4 Jul 1813, Sarah A. Haskins. She was born 15 Dec 1798, and died 24 Jul 1834, Almond, NY.

He was a farmer. He resided Almond, NY, and Van Buren, IN.

Children of Solomon⁶ and Sarah A. (Haskins) Whitney:

i.	Ami7 Whitney, b. 28 Jul 1815; m.(1) Elizabeth Ferguson; m.(2) Caroline Borders.
ii.	Temperance Whitney, b. 4 Jan 1818; d. 6 Aug 1822, from burns caused by her clothing taking fire.
iii.	Asenath Whitney, b. 2 Jun 1820; d. 28 Mar 1886; m. 1 Aug 1839, Stephen Ketchum; resided Primrose, WI. Stephen Ketchum was b. 29 Oct 1813; d. 24 Aug 1856, from the effect of being kicked in the bowels by a horse, only living about twenty minutes after being injured. This occurred at Van Buren, IN. Children: a. Edwin S. Ketchum, b. 28 Sep 1840. b. Albert Ketchum, b. 25 Jul 1842; d. 17 Jul 1846. c. George Ketchum, b. 16 Oct 1844 d. Madison, Wisconsin, with the measles shortly after enlisting in a Wisconsin volunteer regt. during the Rebellion. d. Ann Eliza Ketchum, b. 27 Dec 1846. e. Hubert Ketchum, b. 7 May 1848. f. Loren L. Ketchum, b. 23 Dec 1850 (twin); res. Madison, WI. g. Lawrence L. Ketchum, b. 23 Dec 1850 (twin); h. Ami Whitney Ketchum, b. 13 Aug 1854; d. 10 Dec 1878; was murdered at Plumb Creek, NE. One exciting incident occurred in December 1878. The residents of Kearny, NE, were enraged over the lynching of Luther Mitchell and Ami Ketchum by I. P. (Print) Olive for the murder of Olive's brother, Robert. Such swift justice was not uncommon. However, the possible complicity of the sheriff in the lynching and the fact that the victims' bodies were burned incensed the townspeople. Silvis made the most of the excitement by selling "Views of the Hanging of Mitchell and Ketchum" and a photographic mosaic of the "Olive Gang." - J. B. iv.	Sarah Ann Whitney, b. 9 Jul 1823; m. 12 Nov 1844, Rev. Caleb H. Blanchard; resided Wolcottville, IN. He is a Baptist clergyman, and for fifty years has preached to one congregation--quite an honorary record for a country pastor. He was b. 11 Dec 1817, Rutland Co., VT. Is s.p. They celebrated their golden wedding 12 Nov 1894.
v.	Solomon Whitney, b. 22 Mar 1827; m.(1) Sarah Struble; m.(2) Mrs. Selena Lomax.
vi.	Rufus Whitney, b. 28 Sep 1829; m. Lodema Bartle.
